Hoverwatch is monitoring software for parents and employers. It is built for transparent, consent-based monitoring — not for secret surveillance. This page explains, in plain language, who Hoverwatch is for and how to use it lawfully. It complements our EULA, Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service.
Only install Hoverwatch on a device that you own or are legally authorized to monitor, and inform the person using the device that monitoring is active. For an adult user, you must have their knowledge and consent. Monitoring someone secretly without the right to do so can be a serious crime.
Parents generally have the right to monitor their own minor children’s devices. We encourage an open conversation about online safety rather than secret monitoring — it builds trust and tends to work better. Many regions also legally require that the device user be notified, so always check your local rules.
Employers may generally monitor devices the company owns, provided employees are informed. Best practice is to:
Do not use Hoverwatch to monitor a spouse, partner, or any other adult without their knowledge and consent, to stalk or harass anyone, or on a device you do not own and are not authorized to monitor. These uses are prohibited by our Acceptable Use Policy and may break the law.
Monitoring laws differ by country, state, and region. You are responsible for ensuring your use is lawful where you live. Hoverwatch provides the software only and does not give legal advice; if you are unsure whether your intended use is permitted, please consult a qualified attorney before installing.
